...To OTR truck drivers at least.

Today a Walmart-Optical employee went so far above and beyond, I have no choice but to try to thank her publicly. Yesterday morning I got out of bed and immediately stepped on my glasses, which had somehow found they'r way to the floor while I slept. Talk about an awful way to start your day, "this really hurts and yer effed" all at the same time. Both lenses were popped out, one was chipped, frame was really bent and the acrylic wire that retained the right lens was torn.

I thought I could press on regardless but this morning (predawn, dark), I couldn't tell the difference between a road sign that said exit 448 and exit 449 and after I took the wrong exit, I couldn't read the street signs quickly enough to make for a proper detour. I struggled to make my appointment this morning, then had the same problems while trying to find my next pick up. I didn't have time to have new prescription glasses made and my 70ft, 80,000 lb truck prevented me from just rolling into the nearest "We Fix Broken Glasses" specialty shop. My only choice was to a WalMart Optical and beg them to fix my non-WalMart glasses. Any price, just make my glasses be in front of my eyes again.

I pulled into the WalMart in Bellevue NE and didn't even have to explain my situation before the optometrist kinda gave me the "hush" hand sign before saying "we'll see what we can do". I waited around while she attempted to fix my glasses, it was taking 20 minutes, then 30 minutes, starting to border 40 minutes, I'm thinking I've got to get going with or without my glasses, clock is ticking....

Shortly thereafter she emerged from her lab with my glasses completely assembled and straight! The optometrist explained the reason it took so long to repair my glasses was the fact one lens was chipped and she needed to re groove the lens before it could be retained by the frame. I thanked her profusely as I walked toward the cash register and took out my wallet.

"WalMart doesn't charge for repair of glasses"

"I didn't buy these glasses at WalMart"

"Have a nice day"

Wow. Great customer service. I always keep an older set with me in case of that. May not be the most current, but works in an emergency. Good for you.

Thank you for that, but I believe no person is an individual, alone.

Same. The prescriptions are weaker, but at least it moves me in the right direction haha.

I'd rather not disclose who I'm driving for privacy reasons, but I drive an International ProStar, while towing a 53ft dry van.

Understandable. I used to drive a long time ago. We ran Mack conventionals with 50' reefers from Michigan to the west coast with no Jake Brakes. In for some fun? I see those ProStars a lot. They look like nice tractors.

Since you're a trucker, and you would know better than I, (I'm a dumbass 4 wheeler) one question I had is how hard is it to move your tandems? I have seen guys do it online, and I was just thinking it must be tough, because to me it looks like you have to position the trailer to the inch so the pins go in. Do you have to adjust it a bunch? I probably would.

Also...if you're on a multilane freeway does it bug you if cars go around on the right?
